Queen Latifah
Dana Elaine Owens - better known to the public as Queen Latifah, is an American performer, actress and acrobat. Queen Latifah is an American actor, rapper as well as a singer. Queen Latifah was born in Newark, NJ. The daughter is Rita Owens Sr. and Lancelot Owens Jr. Latifahs parents split up at the age of Latifah, then ten years aged, was 10 years old. Latifah was brought up in the Baptist church and she attended Catholic school in Newark New Jersey. Latifah is a word that means gentle and generous. Her mother gave it to her at the age of 8. Being a tall girl, her height of 5'10 inches Latifah was a power forward for the basketball team at her high school. She performed the number Home from the musical The Wiz in a high school play. Latifah started to beatbox for Ladies Fresh. Latifah was member of the Flavor Unit - a group of rappers that united around the producer DJ Mark the 45 King. Mark James, aka DJ Mark the45 King recorded the rap of Queen Latifah, aka Princess of the Posse. He emailed the recorded to Yo! MTV Raps The Fab 5 Freddy. Dante Ross, an employee of Tommy Boy Music who heard the song, and then was signed by Latifah in 1988 to release her debut single Wrath of My Madness.
